North Wales Police Y Glas homepage
Hello, and welcome to our new interactive Website, Y Glas. We hope you like it.
We created this site to run in parallel with the existing North Wales Police online presence. Our aim is to develop Web 2.0 engagement, which for us means using publicly available internet media to extend our involvement in the rapidly developing networked community. As you can see, we are on Facebook, You Tube and the blogosphere. We are planning a range of new online services including job applications and financial transactions. We are also promoting a fantastic product called thinkuknow, providing useful and fun information for children, parents and teachers about safe internet use.
We are not here to encourage or discourage the use of social networking and other web communications. We are simply accepting that this is how people increasingly choose to spend their time and, in some cases, organise their lives. We therefore cannot afford to turn our back on what is rapidly becoming a daily routine for many of you. Our goal is to add safety and security and to promote positive community endeavour.
Our intention is not to be intrusive, but to extend our ability to listen, help and advise on things that appear to matter to you. If you do choose to engage with us we will be pleased to respond.
This is the first phase of our new web communications strategy, and I have some other interesting plans for the near future….watch this cyberspace. In the meantime, please tell us what you think. Are we going down the right path? What would you like to see developed on Y Glas in future? You can leave comments and feedback at the bottom of this page.
Happy Surfing

i think this is a good idea as most people are not sure how to get their point across.i. believe people should not drink and or go over the speed limit but what does annoy me and lots of other people is their are too many trafic police and not enough police n.

It is comforting to know that the police are listening to the public. Well done. I am sure it will be a great way of beating crime. Targeting problem areas. We have a great police support worker here in Llanfairfechan who looks to be doing a hell of a good job with the local kids. I am sure that her contact is having a big impact.. Hope it works out.

Hi tarastar
Thank you for your feedback. There is an identified technical issue with the youTube section of the site and are working to resolve it. When fixed, the most recent videos will be displayed.

Quite honestly it looks like a website for a nightclub. I can’t think who its aimed at? Young? old? People want good old fashioned policing - not a gimmicky web site that will date very quickly. If a hospital had a web site put together like this I’d think twice about having a op in it. Think more about the content not the delivery.

Steve, thanks for your feedback. We appreciate constructive comments on the work we are carrying out. Please continue to visit the site over the coming weeks and months for further developments.

Website looks good, how about somewhere on there where people can leave information, tip offs, or other useful information, i know a lot of people would come forward if they didn’t have to phone or go into police station. For example I would not of made this suggestion if I had to do it by phone, letter or visit to Police station.

It is possible to contact your local neighbourhood officer (anonymously if you wish) via email, through the North Wales Police corporate website, or through our Facebook pages. You can enter your postcode and find your local policing team, complete with email and mobile phone contact details.

Thank you for replying, I don’t know what occurred to the last message. However, basically I feel that energy, manpower, time and above all (my) money must be employed on the streets, and mostly during unsociable hours, not in activities of this nature.
As an ex police officer, I know that policing is mostly boring, often difficult, and on occasions dangerous and exciting. However, the resources for which I pay must mainly be used for a street presence, not in activities of this nature however “modern” they may seem. Police Duty has changed little since the days of Sir Robert Peel, although the scientific means to support this activity may have done. Many of the activities currently pursued in policing, including this, do little or nothing to answer the basic needs of the public.
We pay for this service, and expect value.
NWP>> Monty, many thanks for your thoughts. I agree with your point that the job of policing can be varied and challenging. However, from our personal experiences, consulting with the public at large, parents/guardians and children we acknowledge that all of today’s crime does not happen on the “streets” of North Wales. What we trying to do here is simply extend our ability to listen and help those people in North Wales that require our help, where a physical police presence on the street in the late hours would not always work for them. As an active blogger/poster, you may appreciate how this medium can be effectively used to engage those people who may not otherwise voice their issues, concerns or simply ask for help. Hi
Congrats on an excellent website.
Regarding the Contact Us page, I have heard that from 15th April 2009 anyone wishing to contact you but is NOT an EMERGENCY can now dial ‘101’; calls costs 10p from either landline or mobile.
NWP Reply >> Bill, Thank you for your positive comments about our website. Yes, you are quite right 101 was launched as a single non-emergency number for contacting your local police service in Wales on 15th April. There will be more publicity and a full launch of the number in September. In the meantime you can view the original press release on our website under archived news items. We will be updating our website and contact us pages to reflect the changes. 101 will run alongside our existing 0845 non-emergency numbers and other methods of contacting us such as e-mail and of course our SMS text messaging service for the Deaf. Best Wishes the Team at NWP.

I am a founder member of the PPP (people for proper policing in North wales)The reports on close communication and cooperation with young people and other vulnerable groups is very encouraging and we are fully supportive of such work. CRIME PREVENTION and deterrence is our primary expectation for the Police and this can only be achieved by being there at the right palce at the right time. Local people know when and where this is, so keep walking and talking!
NWP Reply > Mike. Thank you for your comments. We certainly aim to keep on walking and talking. Please drop by again with your ideas. Best Wishes NWP
